Celebrating NAIDOC week

It’s NAIDOC Week, a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, history and peoples. This year’s theme is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud.

But how does one celebrate? You may already have a local event in your calendar, but for those who don’t, head to naidoc.org.au to see the events happening in your community.

Taking part and showing your support can be as simple as listening to an album by First Nations artists or watching a film or TV show about, and by, First Nations creators.

Reconciliation NSW’s breakfast live stream event

IMB team members came together yesterday on Dharawal country to participate in Reconciliation NSW’s breakfast live stream event, engaging in the ideas and experiences of Reconciliation Australia CEO Karen Mundine, The Hon David M. Harris MP, Reconciliation NSW’s Co-chair Annie Tennant, Rowena Welsh-Jarrett (Welcome to Country), Joshua Staines (Q&A Facilitator) and panellists Mitchell Beggs-Mowzcan, Belinda Huntriss, and Brenden Broadbent.

Some of the IMB team are pictured with our RAP artwork, Connected Through Country, by LaToya Kennedy (acrylic on canvas).

This year’s theme, ‘Now More Than Ever’, represents the importance of Australia continuing its journey towards reconciliation and to learn about and celebrate the cultures and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

IMB Bank | National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week

#NationalReconciliationWeek is always celebrated on from 27 May to 03 June.

That’s because these two dates are significant in the history of our First Nations Peoples. May 27th is the date of the 1967 referendum to remove discriminatory clauses from the Australian Constitution, and June 3rd is the anniversary of the 1992 High Court Mabo decision recognising native title.

Now more than ever, this week is one for Australians to explore, understand and celebrate the vibrant cultures of our First Nations peoples and to take steps, big or small, towards reconciliation.

To learn about the deep history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and get involved in events happening near you, visit reconciliation.org.au

IMB Bank | International Women's Day 2024

International Women’s Day 2024!

This International Women’s Day, we’d like to celebrate remarkable women who inspire us with their compassion, dedication, drive and resilience to deliver better outcomes for women in our community.

Adamas Nexus (ACT), A Splash of Colour (Newcastle), and Zonta Club of Berry were just some of the recipients of IMB Bank Community Foundation grants in 2023.

From helping survivors of violence, addressing social issues among culturally and linguistically diverse women, and removing financial barriers, these are just a few examples of the unwavering efforts of female leaders and volunteers in our community supporting and uplifting women.

IMB Bank | Carbon Neutral Certification

IMB proud to announce carbon neutral certification

Today, we’re proud to announce a significant milestone in our commitment to environmental sustainability. IMB Bank has achieved carbon neutral certification from @ClimateActive, the Australian Government’s leading initiative for climate action.

We achieved certification for our offsetting projects, which included an entirely Aboriginal-owned, not-for-profit business that undertakes traditional fire management to reduce emissions (pictured, Warddeken ranger Ted Maralngurra conducts a burning program on the Arnhem Land plateau. Photo: David Hancock Photography); a native forest regeneration project to restore forest cover that had been lost to grazing and invasive species; and a project that will see forest plantations on degraded grasslands previously under extensive grazing.

This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the meticulous due diligence conducted by @NdevrEnvironmental, which ensured that we only invested in high-quality carbon offsets.

Our certification is a testament to our ongoing commitment to addressing climate change and reducing our carbon footprint, and we will continue to take meaningful steps to help our members and communities be better off.
